I recommend SWORDS AND SOLDIERS. Cracking little side-scrolling RTS title. Very accessible too!

Recent Steam deals have included C&C: RED ALERT 3 for £3.74 & BRAID for £2.10. At those prices i'd recommend both.

Truer words have never been spoken. Steam is the ultimate way of buying games that are cheap, but you'll probably never play more than an hour or two.

First recommendation: Shatter.

In case you didn't get this on the PS3, it's available on Steam now. I can't stress how much I love this game. It might just look like a block breaker kind of game, but there's more to it. You can curve the ball by sucking and blowing the air around it, and you get random power-ups. And there's a boss fight at the end of every world/chapter.

And it has some of the best music I've ever heard in a game.

Having received a resounding 'thumbs-up' for the PSN version from Twitter chums, I picked up SHATTER this evening. A bargain at £4 & change.

Had a quick blast on it for one go tonight & gotta say it is both hypnotic & compulsive. Great soundtrack & retro Arkanoid vibe. Really, really digging it & chuffed I unlocked 28% of the trophies & reached 8th on my friend's lists leaderboards with my very first go. Awesome.

I may be flogging a dead horse with this recommendation as i don't think a single one of you would play it but..

Football Manager 2011.

If you like these games, they are finally getting back to being awesome and this one has taken about 10 days gameplay time cumulative off me in a couple of months.

'The Binding Of Isaac'.
If you like Edmund Mcmillen's stuff ('Super Meat Boy', various Newgrounds stuff) then this is your next step. It's team Meats' typical style, with an old-skool maze run-n-shoot vibe to it. Funky little powerups and unlocks too. Every maze is randomly generated, as are the enemies within.

I bought it for around £3.99 but it's a perfect game if you just want to kill 20 or 30 minutes in an afternoon.

Edmund has also released a demo on Newgrounds this week so check it out here...
