I managed to snaffle super meat boy off steam for £3 over the holiday. I was hooping to use my PS3 pad to play it as I don't really want to get a new pad just for PC.

Anyway I've plugged in a PS3 pad over USB and set it up with a tool DS3_Tool by MotionInJoy. So the PS3 pad shows up fine in the control panel. I can even calibrate it and test it in one of the dialog windows. However SMB doesn't seem to recognise this as a valid joypad.

Has anyone managed to get a PS3 pad to work with SMB? And if so what tool did you use?

In case it makes a difference I am using windows vista (sorry!)

Apparently there's a profile in MotionJoy to emulate a 360 pad that's supposed to work, but I've always had trouble getting my DS3 controller to show up at all

Alternativey try Joy To Key which lets you manually map keys to controller buttons.

Ah nice one! That was the option I needed.

Turns out the next problem is to tune my laptop so it doesn't freeze at critical moments. SMB seems to require some pretty precise jumps...

There's a few command switches you can try to change res, detail etc ...
SMB Steam Update Blog
Only got the game on 360 but I imagine it's a right pain when not running smoothly, can't think why it's so demanding :-?

Hadn't tried the MotionJoy driver until tonight - and it works much better than the last one I tried :-D
I was getting very close to buying a wired 360 pad but this does a great job

Thanks for the link, will check it out tonight. My laptop is about 3 or 4 years old, but I thought it would cope a bit better.

Also I probably should have disconnected the controller properly, cos when I unplugged it I had to reset it with a paper clip.
