One of my friends is having a problem with their laptop and I was wondering if anyone can give me an idea with what the problem may be.

The problem is that the screen doesn't come on, which would I would put down to a faulty connection/wire. But the thing that puts me in doubt is that the light that shows hard drive activity is not coming on either, which makes me think that the problem could be a little more complex.

Anyone got any ideas on what it could be? (stab in the dark I know) :-?

Doesn't sound too healthy mate, you could try plugging it into a monitor to start with. Check for sounds of hard drive activity / fans whirring as well. I presume there's a light that comes on that shows there's power connected?

My lass's done that a few month back. A quick trip to eBay & a new PSU fixed it. Do you know anyone with a similar model or maybe even just a similar brand to try?

If it is completely dead then it could be the motherboard? In which case it may not even be worth repairing for the price of it. My lass's brother picked up a cheap damaged laptop identical to his lass's when hers broke, he swapped it out & it worked. I be he got some that night. Is your friend female by the way?
