I have been having troubles with Virgin for months now.

Today I had the new hub installed, now my Ping is through the roof again, making hosting out of the question. :-(

It reflects bad on me, and bad for the site to be honest. I set nights up, try and cultivate community and then end up having to cancel and letting people don

Virgin tell me there's a firmware update on....April 1st |_()

Anyway, who are good/fast/decent price and reliable that I might be able to use in good old London town? :ugeek:

I hear that BE are pretty good if you can get anywhere near the 24MB speeds

I was playing Killzone 3 with a lad last night with a new super-duper Virgin modem router thing & he's had nothing but trouble with it too, up until the point when he got disconnected. I'm happy with my lowly 10Mb cable connection as ADSL speeds round here are disgraceful. Maybe things might be different down there, but it might be worth checking what speeds you would get if you went to ADSL with a postcode checker. It might help make your mind up for you. It did with me.

BE are putting up their prices by £4 on each package at the end of this month for new customers so you might want to be quick.

They can also handle your landline as well but you will lose the internet for a couple of weeks by moving from Virgin.

Ive had a pretty much excellent experience with them.

Since all their packages are unlimited you can go with the cheapest option as I do.

Looks like the fastest I can get for my postcode is 3mb away from Virgin.
It seems BE don't even serve my postcode.

Looks like I will have to stick it out with them

I'm genuinely gutted and upset (again) tonight. I shouldn't be so soft, but I put a fair bit of effort in to trying to get people interested in games nights, with sweet results. Then this happens every time.

To Virgins credit I never have to fight for recompense, but I just want solid internet.

I have a local area managers mobile number from last time, I will ring him in the morning. But barring a miracle, me hosting any nights is off the cards for a while

Well, we've been with Virgin on cable for ages, if asked that's who I'd recommend.

(typos not my fault, it was the keyboard, honest)

The thing with virgin is that you suffer for awhile but they do come out in the end! Just stick with them mate, did you check up on BT mate? They went fiber optic too I believe

Have to say I'm a bit gutted for you Lee. I've been with Virgin for years now and never had a single problem (apart from one dodgy phone call where she tried to give me a 'free' blackberry on a monthly contract). I usually only ever recommend Virgin because of it's reliable fibre optic network.

Can you get BT Infinity in your area? A mate of mine just went on it and now thinks he's king of the world

I have been with Blueyonder/Virgin for almost 10 years. However the worst my internet connection has been is with this 50MB superhub. It is the biggest piece of shit I have every had to use. For the first 2 weeks I had to reboot it every single day having either lost wireless or lost internet.

Where I am i don't really have many other options, not that have decent connection speeds so I have stuck with them this long.

Hopefully they will manage something. They have had to relay my cable as it was causing my connection (and TV) to drop

If you are with O2 then you can get a discount of £5 I think on their internet packages. I've been with them for about a year now and not had any trouble. It's through a BT line, but we're on the smallest package and it's perfect for online gaming and general surfing. Not sure how it would hold up to more intense stuff though.
