Hello Frugal Chums, had the old fashion Red Ring of Death on one of my pre HDMI Xbox 360's.

it looked very much like this.

so after a F_bomb twitter rant followed by several home brewed profanities, I sought a fix.

I looked up on the Electronic Bay for anything that may help, and found a kit for £5.99 plus postage, kit contained a few screwdrivers, screws, washers, alcohol wipes and some awful tasting gel.

with the help of the wife, (who was doing most of the work to be fair) and the Youtube guide the Ebayer seller provider, we took apart the Xbox to it's bare bones.

We applied the poorly tasting gel, screwed the heatsinks back in place with the new screws and washers, and with a 30 minute reboot and wait (which involved a Large Cod and Chips) we rebuilt the Xbox and plugged it in...

Obviously if you are in a warranty period I wouldn't suggest the above, but as I was out by nearly a decade, I had not much to lose, I couldn't also guarantee this would fix 100% of everyone else's RROD's issues, but it fucking did for me. :-D

Yup, it's not too hard at all to fix a RROD Xbox, one of mine's been fixed this way and is going fine two years later. :-)

I guess it's not such a big deal these days and it's pretty much sussed for a fix, but it's good to know someone like me diagnosed with retard can apply a fix with success.
