ok, i use the Cartoon HD app on my ipad quite a bit, but would prefer to stream this to TV, and just wondering what would be best, Chromecast or Apple TV

Ive looked at a few reviews etc, and cant decide to what to get, as i do own a mac, ipad, and iphone, stuff will mainly be streamed from these devices, so think apple tv would be the way to go, but again reading a few reviews, im finding the answers to the questions mixed, as streaming from Cartoon HD app is ok on Apple TV, and is ok on CC but you have to download it first, but then other sites saying its not possible etc.

So if anyone one at Frugal Towers can be assistance that would be much appreciated :-D

this is going to be really personal preference really

I like chromecast more as it is more frugal on the cost and smaller and hidden away from my 18 month old so she wont be picking it up and walking away with it

I have a lot of apple products, but I am starting to hate them, again thats just personal

Not sure if that helped at all but thats what I would do in my shoes

I only have chromecast an that's for Netflix use an streaming from laptop to tv.

Works well enough without issues, an at £30 is half the price of the Apples.

Yh thinking the £30 price tag does help my decision in a way, have seen Apple TV a few times about £65-£69 on hotukdeals.

I do use netflix a lot too, but generally just watch it on PS4

I think I've read somewhere that there's gonna be a new Apple TV coming out, so might get the current version a bit cheaper.

I had an Apple TV and never really used it, but I don't have a huge library of iTunes films and suchlike and I don't really watch films anyway.

It got used for showing off photos and for playing the odd game from the iPad. When I realised it was the one that could be hacked I sold it on eBay for £150 odd. I don't miss it, as I've got enough streaming and catch up services on Virgin to keep me entertained should I need it.

When I did use it, the performance was flawless though. You can get the remote as as an app on your phone which is a lot easier than using the one that comes with it

I don't think there's a perfect solution. With AppleTV, Chromecast and Amazon devices out there, some things will work better on each device. Chromecast works great for me with Netflix and iPlayer which is all I really need. You can stream Chrome browser tabs from a PC but it was pretty choppy when I tried it a while ago.

I think the CC is priced just right for people to take a punt without breaking the bank.

Not sure I'd buy either just to run a free movie streaming app that could disappear at a moments notice though.

I have an Apple TV and did hack it but the constant updates made that a mute point, one good and bad thing about it is that if you wish to watch purchases from iTunes it will buffer for a while to make sure you have smooth viewing however if you are on a slow connection it can take forever, saying that I have managed to mirror lots of catch up apps onto it even though it's not supposed to do it

I have an AppleTV box and I absolutely love it. Playing music, videos or simply showing photos from my iPhone or iPad is quick and painless. They can also be mirrored so if you want what's on your device screen (or any other iDevice screen) to be on your TV - there ya go!

Mirroring my iMac is simple as peas too. Wanting to watch something from YouTube or QuickTime/VLC/Whatever on a bigger screen is simply two clicks of my trackpad.

As said above, the remote app is available for your iDevices too and it comes in very handy, especially if you've lost the tiny Apple remote once or twice like I have.

If you've got lots of Apple stuff already, I'd definitely say got for the Apple TV, however cheap you can find it.
