With the imminent birth of our daughter I have been told my gaming days are over. This is obviously not entirely true as I know many people who continue but with a lot less hours.

I was wondering if the Frugal Gamers with children could give me some kind of barometer as to how much your gaming was reduced by?

Also as they get older how do you deal with issues such as playing older rated games with young children.

Either way I am very excited and obviously my daughter will be the priority I am just curious as to what will happen to my favourite past time.

First of all congrats

I used to play 20 to 30 hours a week, this week I have played 45 minutes.

I get a break here and there and manage to put 2 to 3 hours, but you will need a partner that understands unlike mine who thinks gaming is a waste of time

Forgot to add my daughter is only two, but will try to keep the violent games for once she goes to bed, you won't have to worry for about a year :-D

Mine are 5 months, 4 an 5. My sessions are usually 2 hours between the hours of 9 an 12 at night, about 4-5 times a week. Tiring stuff an I can only usually do it once the wife is asleep.

Early doors you might want to reduce more than that as the little one is up at unconventional times, may get one or two sessions in an offer support for other times you'd usually want to game.

My older 2 played an have seen games they shouldn't have done, having to hide most of the adult games in the house, an get them off if I see them on it. For example my 4 year old likes counterspy, an he really shouldn't...

Good luck buddy!

COngratulations on becoming a parent, it's simultaneously the most rewarding, frustrating, amazing, tiring thing you've ever done :)

People are giving you sound advice, so I'm not going to repeat it. I'm just going to share some highlights.

1. Playing games in the front room with a tiddler holding controller 2 (not plugged in) but they're doing it just like daddy!

2. When you first get them to play Sonic and even though it's old as balls they still think it's brilliant.

3. Helping a little bit on bosses and feeling like the fucking MAN

4. Taking photos of your kid next to the tv screen holding up the box for the first game they ever completed.

5. Going to the games store and them being just as giddy as you in there

6. Beating your kids' high score by just a little tiny bit.

7. Deliberately not beating your kids' high score.

8. Not being able to beat your kids' high score.

9. Watching older kid teach younger kid what to do.

10. When your child takes the controller from you and says, "let me help you."

//edit - just realised that this would have cost you at least 10 clicks on Buzzfeed!

Thanks guys. We have about 6 weeks to go so getting in as much as I can. The wife agreed to let me buy Fifa early as I won't be playing it much when she gets here. My unborn child has also preordered me a game but not sure if I'll ever get to play that.

From what you guys have advised it will be as I expected. A few quick games if Fifa and maybe a bit of COD will be possible but long grinding sessions such as Destiny will be a distant memory.

Thanks everyone.

Congrats dude.

I have 3 kids now (7,5 and 19 months). I wasn't really into gaming when my first was born but he didn't have a very good routine at first so my gaming would have been non existent. After my 2nd was born I was into it. He was in a pretty settled routine from about 6 weeks old so I managed to get a few hours any night I wanted too. Since the 3rd was born I am exhausted so not playing is more to do with me, rather than the kids.

Although now the boys are a little bit older, I manage to play games with them (Fifa, Disney Infinity, Minecraft) but you are a few years away from that yet
