Eurogamer have decided to do away with review scores and I was wondering what you folks think of this?

Personally I hate it when people don't add scores. I think it gives you the best of both world as you can either read the whole review if you have time, or just get a quick idea of a game by the review score.

What do you prefer?

I am with you there, joystiq did the same before going bust

They want people to read 3 pages long review, I just want a quick score and a video reviews.

Having the option to read the review or just looking at the score should be left to the reader

I'm not really a fan of review scores. I don't score things myself. Whenever someone asks me to rate a game out of ten or something, I never do. I'd rather give them a detailed response. 6/10 or 7/10 is too ambiguous. And 10/10 just indicates that the reviewer really, really enjoyed it. I want to know WHY! Reducing experiences to numbers, however amazing or poor it is, is an inadequate way of conveying ones feelings and thoughts on said experience. So yeah. Fuck scores yo.

I sit in the middle with this.

I see the value of not having them and encouraging people to read, but sometimes it's nice to be lazy and just look at a score.

I will admit, I do use metacritic just to get a feel and an average on scores of a game to guide me sometimes.

Scores should be the most valued aspect of a review (some of my favourite games have averaged about 6 on MC), but they are handy.

I don't read full reviews unless I have loads of time. Takes me ages to read. And I don't like scores because it doesn't tell me why it is good or bad, just that it is.

I like the way Metro do them. Scroll right to the bottom and you have In Short, Pros, Cons and a score. Ignoring the score, the short summary with the pros and cons give enough information for me to be able to judge it. Also shows the trustworthiness of the score based on what they choose to write here. It has to be so condensed, that if it is slating it based on what I call trivial factors (graphics, length, button layout, etc) then I can disregard the review and move on quickly. It is just a great way to digest a large amount of information in a short time, and push past the rubbish reviews.
